Tumaco is a region on the South Pacific coast of Colombia near the border with Ecuador.  It is a highly volatile area and plagued with drug trafficking.  The climate is warm and humid typical of the tropical rainforest regions.

The region is also a large producer of palm oil but we will never use this in our chocolate unlike some large producers.

Cacao de Colombia has worked with the farmers in the region to recognise the benefits from growing cacao and bean prices have risen by 70% as a result of expanded overseas markets.

Over a third of the farmers are female giving them hope of a stable future.

The beans grown in this region are a mix of traditional Criollo and imported Trinitario.

On average the farmers are receiving 43% more than the average of Ivory Coast and Ghana farmers.

The biggest producer and exporter in Colombia is Casa Luker.

The flavour notes are of whisky, tobacco and chocolate.
