Sierra Nevada lies near Colombia’s Caribbean coast, in a region famous for its banana production. While farms operate at sea level, the area is also known for the Santa Marta mountain range, which rises to 5,700 meters, making it the highest coastal mountain range in the tropics.

Cacao Hunters works with around 110 farmers, each managing about 2.2 hectares. They offer guidance and collect harvests for the market.

Intercropping includes plantain, banana, avocado, timber, and citrus.

The cacao’s flavor profile features almond, nutmeg, and kiwi.

Fermentation lasts six days with daily bean turning, followed by a multi-stage indirect sun drying process, with raking every 30 minutes, later reduced to every 60 minutes.

They prioritize agroforestry and traditional farming methods.
